The 2 meter band is the most widely used band allocated to amateur radio in the VHF range. Most repeaters around the Brookings area, including the Crown Terrace repeater (146.840 MHz, - offset, 88.5 Hz tone), use the 2 meter band.

As with all VHF and UHF bands, the entire 2 meter band is available to all ham radio operators, including Technician-class licensees. It is often the first band used by new licensees, in part because of the availability of inexpensive HTs and because it is often quite simple to use VHF and UHF transceivers, compared to HF radios.
