Help:How to Edit
It's very easy to edit the contents of a page.
- Click the "Edit" page tab at the top of the page.
- Make changes to the text.
- Click the "Save changes" or "Save page" button.
Your edit is now online!
Be Bold
The number one rule of wiki editing is to be bold. Go ahead—make changes. Other people can correct any mistakes you make, so have confidence, and give it a try!
An edit can contribute whole new paragraphs or pages of information, or it can be as simple as fixing a typo or a spelling mistake. In general, try to add or edit text so that it is clear and concise. Most importantly, make sure you are always aiming to do something which improves the contents of the wiki. If you aren't sure whether or not a change is beneficial, go ahead and make it! If it does cause a problem, it will only take someone else a few seconds to remove it, and even if it needs further changes, it might add information that someone else didn't know or wouldn't have thought to add.
Formatting
You do not need to know anything about the formatting codes to edit. Just add the text you want, and other people can add formatting. If you want to do this, though, here are the most common codes:
Links
To link to another page on the wiki, just put its title between double square brackets. For example, Repeaters
shows as Repeaters.
If you want the text shown in the article to be different from the title of the article being linked, write the text you want to show after a "|" (vertical line) character. (This is most likely on the same key as the backslash, above Enter or Return.) For example, FAQs
shows as FAQs, but the link goes to Frequently Asked Questions.
To link to an external site, put the URL followed by the link text between single square brackets. For example, "Amateur radio" on Wikipedia
shows as "Amateur radio" on Wikipedia.
Headings
There are five levels of headings available for use in articles. A level-2 heading is written as == Heading Text ==
. (Level 1 is reserved for the page title and is not used for headings within the page.) A level-3 heading is written as === Heading Text===
. This continues to level 6, ====== Heading Text ======
. Level-2 headings indicate main sections of the page, while level-3 headings indicate subsections of level-2 sections, and so on.
Bold and italics
Put text between triple apostrophes
for bold and double apostrophes
for italics.
Repeaters
If you mention the Harbor Hills repeater (146.960 MHz, - offset, 88.5 Hz tone) or Crown Terrace repeater (146.840 MHz, - offset, 88.5 Hz tone) in an article, please write
or
at least the first time that repeater is mentioned in the article. If the article uses a list format, use these "templates" every time you mention one of the repeaters. Put the word "the" before these templates if it is appropriate in the sentence; for example, The is used for the Health and Welfare Net.
will show as "The Crown Terrace repeater (146.840 MHz, - offset, 88.5 Hz tone) is used for the Health and Welfare Net."
